"CLAIM A HEADSTONE"
 
This will allow families or others to have the permission to keep their ancestors graves tidy.
 
 
Ancestors will be able to tend to the grave to suit themselves and their timeframe. There will be guidelines on what would be required.
 
This is in the process of being formulated by the Waratah-Wynyard Council.
 
The Council are the Relevant Managers of the Cemetery as specified under the Burial and Cremation Act and we will be guided by their instructions.
Many of the guardrails and surrounds around the graves need a lot of work i.e. Repair and replaced.  It is hoped that an expert in the field of cleaning and restoration will be on-site to advise the correct procedure.
 
We are well aware that many descendants live interstate, intrastate and overseas.
 This will not preclude them from being part of the
"Claim a Headstone"
Project.
Those who are unable to do the tidying themselves can request that the
Friends of the Waratah Pioneer Cemetery Group
do it for you.
